Neurofeedback Explanation

The training kits and programs that Excellent Brain develops and markets operate using neurofeedback technology. Neurofeedback is a ‘brain training’ method developed in the early 1970s.

The scientific rationale for neurofeedback is based on the ‘principle of repetition’ and receiving immediate positive feedback. In this way, the brain can be ‘taught’ to create a ‘positive conditioning’ for the purpose of improving a specific brain activity.

The ‘positive feedback’ (neurofeedback) is obtained using sensors that measure EEG waves emitted from the brain in its current state. The sensors are connected to a computer that processes the information and provides the trainee with audio-visual feedback. The user experience is very similar to a computer game, only instead of a keyboard or joystick, the actions are controlled by the trainee’s brain.

The method has proven, in dozens of clinical studies, to be effective in overcoming ADHD and other aspects of brain activity. In light of the fact that this is not an invasive procedure and no dangerous side effects are known, the FDA (Food and Drug Administration in the United States, known as a particularly strict body) has issued recommendations regarding performing ‘brain training’ using neurofeedback as a way to deal with attention deficit disorders. The Association of Pediatricians in the United States has also advised parents of children with ADHD to try to address the problem using neurofeedback before advancing to medication.

As mentioned before, neurofeedback is not a newly created idea. Rather, it is an old and proven method. The disadvantage of the method was that anyone who wanted to do a ‘brain training’ had to find a suitable institute or clinic.
